Book details former California SC Justice and Reagan Cabinet member
Former California Supreme Court Justice William P. Clark, who also served in Ronald Reagan's Cabinet is the subject of an upcoming biography called, “The Judge,” The Ventura Star reports.
Clark, 75, an Ojai Valley native dropped out of Loyola Law School but passed the bar and started a practice in Oxnard. When he left Reagan’s administration, he returned to his ranch near Paso Robles and has lived an extremely private life ever since, the paper details.
Ignatius Press will release the book, written by Paul Kengor, and Patricia Clark Doerner, a cousin to Clark, in October. The paper says the authors conclude that while Clark had a reputation “as a foreign policy hawk, it was in his nature to be a peacemaker.”
A time line from the paper gives the the following biographical information for Clark:
1959-69: Senior partner in Clark, Cole and Fairfield law firm,.
1969: Superior Court judge in San Luis Obispo County.
1971-81: State Court of Appeals and California Supreme Court.
1981: Deputy secretary of state to Regan.
1982-83: National security adviser to the president.
1983-85: Served as secretary of the interior.
